Grace is half-Chinese, but doesn’t speak Chinese and didn’t want to live in China.
The father got into trouble for handing out visas to refugees after Kristallnacht.
He was harassed by German officials for this behaviour, eventually leaving.
Grace goes back to America and the father goes back to China.
